Multi Tasking Reigns Supreme - House In Chaos

Perhaps the holidays weren't the best time to start a 30 day challenge. Between work, family, friends, a death, writing a script for a video game, article writing, research...I haven't had much time to myself, much less even an hour to clean. Which means of course that the house is trashed. But I've been trying to do little bits here and there, while I'm on the phone, while waiting for something to upload, any little bit of downtime I have I'm cleaning.

I have gotten very little sleep...usually on the go from 7 or 8am all the way until 2 or 3am. I am trying to take care of myself, and take care of the spawn...but as you can see, I do have quite a bit on my plate right now. But as FlyLady says...one babystep at a time. Even though I cannot cram much more in (and I really can't do the entirety of those four things on any one day) I have been trying to do what I can, when I can. It can't get much worse then it is right?

I'm sure many of you are going through a lot of insanity this holiday season, and my thoughts are with you. We can all find some time to do something to bless our homes...and if you have ANY time management tips for a busy single mom, please share them.

30 Days To A Clean Home Duex: Day Two

A homemade countdown timer designed specifical...Image via WikipediaDay Two

Well, I managed to hit all of my four things today. I did 15 minutes of dishes, one load of laundry, decluttered in this weeks zone (the bathroom) and hit my hot spot. I did forget to take before pictures of my bathroom counter, but otherwise, I did good today. I also used any extra time I had to pick up things I noticed, like some trash in the living room.

I didn't really want to do anything, as per usual, I came home after work and getting the spawn from school exhausted. So I set a timer for 25 minutes and went and laid down. Of course the usual story played out...the timer went off and I reset it, hit snooze if you will. But as I laid there, I kept thinking to myself, "Is this going to get you where you want to be?" And once that thought crept in, I found it impossible to go back to sleep. Dang it. So I got up and got some coffee, waffled for a few minutes while drinking it, then picked myself up out of the chair and got to work. I actually worked up a sweat!

The nice thing about getting my stuff done, was that I calmly got through the rest of the day...even with a plugged toilet and a very sick spawn. I was able to call my Dad, get the toilet taken care of without any screaming, flipping out etc (even better was that HE didn't do any of the above either), and get the puking spawn to said toilet without freaking out over the fact that she...didn't originally make it. I just took a couple of paper towels and wiped them up, got her a wet cloth, some more medicine for her fever, talked to her, hugged and kissed her and got her back to sleep. Its a good feeling. :)

And as always, I have pictures!

30 Days To A Clean Home - Restarted

30 DaysImage via WikipediaI'm restarting the 30 days to a clean home trial. I got WAY off track, due to my thrown back, family, and that exhaustion that hits like clockwork once a month. My house is literally disgusting right now...at least in my eyes! I don't think I have a clean dish, or any clean clothes, the piles are growing...ewww. I think some of them have teeth.

Today is grocery day and trash day, so I want to get as much done as possible before its time to leave. I should have about an hour and a half before Mom calls to get going.

Daily Focus:

  • Dishes
  • Laundry
  • Hot Spots
  • 15 Minutes decluttering in current zone.

30 Days To A Clean Home: Days Three And Four

Day Three: The only thing I got done was a living room rescue. I was so tired, and rather apathetic the whole day. I took 4 naps of random lengths.

Day Four: I got 15 minutes of dishes done, but since its grocery day, I didn't have much energy by the time I got home. Though I did put away ALL the groceries, instead of just putting away the cold stuff and tossing the rest on the floor.

I didn't take any pictures, I've been superscattered, and just blah. I'm not sure if I'm fighting this, fighting an illness, or just in one of those moods. I couldn't even bring myself to update on here, and even right now I'm forcing myself. I really don't know what is with me lately.

Today's FLYing TaDas

Thanks Misty_Jones for stopping by and offering some encouragement! I can use all that I can get lately. I'm still under the weather, so cleaning has been rather touch and go. Today was more of a day of picking up things as I notice them, especially considering this was the first full day of work I've had since I became sick last Thursday. Hopefully soon I can get into the flow of flying again, with pictures of course!

Accomplishments:

  • Got up
  • Got the spawn to school
  • Went to work
  • Made it through a full 4 hour shift!
  • Sort of made the bed
  • Cooked dinner
  • Picked up here and there

Housework Is The Devil....

I am not having a great day. I have gotten nothing done, I'm once again in a bit of a funk. CHAOS is blooming all around me, though of course it isn't as bad as it has been. But it is worse then it has been recently. I've been smoking like a chimney, not drinking my water, not eating right...I'm starting to fall back into my old patterns. And I'm getting irritated with myself.

I have the know-how to clean, to do everything I need to do, to balance everything. But my mental discipline has vanished. I feel like a yo yo - scattered, distracted, irritated. And that's not me. But for some reason I keep standing in my own way. Can I just take me out of the picture entirely?

Not A Bad Day

Today was a fairly productive day, even though I was exhausted. I had a bit more energy then normal though, so that is a start. Didn't finish the entirety of my daily list, but I did get sidetracked on a few things, and my 5 minute room rescue took much longer then 5 minutes, but I feel better now.

I'm trying to cut my cleaning time off at a certain time, and it seems to be helping some...knowing I can stop completely at 9pm helped me get a lot more done. Considering when I got home from work I didn't want to do anything, much less even LOOK at the to do list. So I bummed around until 6pm...and I got home at 4pm. I'm going to keep it up and see how I fare...maybe soon I can cut it down so that I have more me time at the end of the day, and still manage to get my butt in bed before midnight. My new aim is eleven, but if I'm in bed at midnight I'm calling it good.

I'm also taking more productive breaks...instead of vegging out in front of the computer for my break, I'm doing me things. So far it seems to help me feel more productive, even if I got very little housework done. But every little thing I do is better then what I haven't done!

The First Day Of My New Life

Well, so far today has gone okay. I haven't had a smoke since last night (just before midnight), I survived work, and now I'm fighting exhaustion. Serious exhaustion, like I could fall asleep walking and talking exhausted. I think I have been fighting some sort of cold/flu/bug thing as well, so that REALLY isn't helping. If I thought I could only take a short (like an hour) nap, I would. But I think that it would just make all of this worse. Right now I'm drinking coffee, but soon I think I'll switch to water and eat an apple.

Now I need to get up off my keister and get some things done around here. So I'm running off to go update my to do list, print it out and get my franny in gear!
